So are you? If I were to be totally honest, I'd have to say that I've been confused more than once. If we were all honest, we'd probably admit that it is easy to get confused even when we have all of the information. Take for instance the proverbial instructions for the entertainment center that you put together yourself. When you look at the box, you think to yourself, that can't be that hard. On the outside of the box, the manufacturer even places a message that says something to the effect of "Easy to Follow Instructions included". However, once you get the box home and get started on those "easy to follow" instructions, you can very easily get confused. Some of us can get so confused we even resort to trying to figure it out on our own and in the process end up with something the manufacturer never intended.
Well, if you were in class this past Sunday, you heard John Riddle start the opening round on a series we're calling Cultural Confusion. He laid the framework for this series by asking a few questions regarding the Church. First, he asked whether or not we live in a divided nation. After some discussion, he asked if, rather than a nation divided, it is the Church who is divided and confused. He went on to say that this internal confusion as to who we are has the external impact of confusing the world around us. Who are we? What should our culture look like? Does the Church look anything like the manufacturer intended or have we left the original instructions to build something that bears no resemblence to his plan?
Well what think ye? We'd like to get your thoughts on the questions above.
NEXT WEEK:
Contural Confusion: A Look In The Mirror
COMING UP:
Apostles of Comedy

I wish things were simple. Black and white. Do this do not do that. But as John mentioned, God does what He wants and the adventure we are on is a great wild adventure. Which can be scary yet amazing!!! This for me is the key; Keep my eyes ever fixed on Jesus. Pray. Be a prayer warrior. And let the litmus test be 1 Corinthians 13 It is allll about love. Love for our Jesus, love for others and laying down the selfish love of self. I have to constantly tel myself...KISS.
ReplyDeleteI love the topics over the last several weeks. The Way of the Master series was great and now we are moving into another relevant series. I appreciate that you are continually challenging all of us. I am also thankful that both teachers talk to us like they are are here with us not that they are talking down to us. You guys are doing great.
ReplyDelete*Update on Justin:
ReplyDelete(I feel kind of weird ever posting on here since it appears that only a few people read/comment. Freddy, maybe you could require us to post comments for a grade, kind of the way I do for my students! :) )
His physical functions are fine, but "he" is still not there. They have had him evaluated by two care facilities because the hospital is sending him home. The first place rejected him and they are waiting to hear from the second. It's just really sad to think of an active, athletic thirteen year old boy who is now completely non-functional mentally and emotionally. Please keep him in your prayers.
We'll be praying... I'll also mention it in class this week as well.
ReplyDeleteOowwww... I like the grade idea. :O
All in favor say aye... those opposed.
I'm all for it, but that's only because I already post so it's a guaranteed A
