What the Eyewitness Saw

I John 1:5 - 2:2
John has spent the first few verses introducing his purpose for writing this letter. Now he shifts gears and tells us the message that the life of Jesus left him with. He deals directly with difference between what God wants and what we do. To him, it's a matter of light and darkness. We're in the light or we're in the dark. He doesn't term sin to be a lapse in judgement. It's darkness. When we sin, we are in the dark. If we say anything else, he tells us we're liars.

John says "God is light. In him there is no darkness at all." What does it mean to say God is light?
